The annual Anzac Day Dawn Service is set to take place at the Cenotaph at Coleman Park on Saturday at 6 am. We are looking forward to this very moving ceremony and sharing it with the many Junior School Councillors and other Year 6 leaders who will represent the school. Our Choir will be singing at the service and I would like to thank them together with all our other students who choose to attend. A special thank-you also to Mrs Matthews and Mrs Zizic for assisting with this service. There will also be a second service held at the Cenotaph at 10:15 am. Any students and their families are most welcome to attend either of these services.
On Tuesday 10th April our Year 6 leaders attended the 4th Annual South Gippsland State Primary School’s Student Leaders’ Conference. This event was held at the Korumburra Showgrounds Amenities Complex and saw over 110 students from Welshpool to Cowes take part in a full day of activities run by Sydney company ‘GRIP Leadership’. The children also took part in a football clinic at Lunchtime with AFL Gippsland’s Chelsea Caple who was assisted by former Collingwood, Fremantle and North Melbourne player Leigh Brown – a former Gippsland boy. Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist high jumper Eleanor Patterson from Leongatha was Guest Speaker and she answered the children’s questions about her life and chosen sport.
At last Friday’s Assembly, we presented our 34 JSC members with their badge of office. Our Guest Speaker was the Hon. Russell Broadbent, our Federal Member of Parliament for Gippsland. We also welcomed back our 2014 Year 6 JSC Executive members – Shaye Garton, Kaylah Thomas, Oliver McLean and Travis Hall – who assisted with the handing out of the badges. Good luck to our new Junior School Councillors as they take on the responsibility of representing their class at events during the year.
