KidsMatter Primary is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and is proven to make a positive difference to the lives of Australian children.
KidsMatter Primary provides the proven methods, tools and support to help schools work with parents and carers, health services and the wider community, to nurture happy, balanced kids.
Korumburra Primary School is currently working through the four components of this initiative: Positive School Community, Social and Emotion-al Learning For Students, Working With Parents And Carers and Helping Children With Mental Health Difficulties.
Korumburra Primary School staff members have been provided with initial Professional Development to assist their understanding of mental health and wellbeing, which is then transferred to classroom practices and behaviours. Professional Development sessions will continue for all staff and information sessions will be provided to parents and the wider school community. Kids Matter is an integral part of the school’s Strategic Plan (2014-2017).
Korumburra Primary School has developed Wellbeing Action Teams for the implementation of Kids Matter. An expected school-wide behaviours matrix has been created which is clearly displayed around the school and a reference point for staff, students and parents.
Student’s social and emotional learning is given equal value to their academic, physical and cultural curriculum. Korumburra Primary School is working hard to develop an emphasis on “Every Face has a Place” and “Knowing Me, Knowing You and Getting Along Too”.
