House Cross Country Run

Next Wednesday 25th May, we have our annual House Cross Country run which will see all our students compete in various age groups as they make their way around the tricky course that Mrs Snooks has prepared. This year, we have a new addition with the creation of a footpath that runs down beside our school boundary fence on Princes Street. This will only add to the many other different surfaces that the students will run on. It really will be across country! Good luck to all our students as it is another way that our students can show their support for their House team-mates.

National Simultaneous Story-time

On Wednesday 25th May, our school will take part in National Simultaneous Story-time where one story is read at the same time all around Australia. This year, the story is titled ‘I Got This Hat’ and will be read by our guest story-teller, Mrs Jacqui Rotthier. We look forward to seeing lots of students in the Library at Lunchtime to hear this year’s story. Thank you to Mrs Helen Cripps for co-ordinating this.

Computer Literacy Program

Don’t forget that we have had information that our local Community House ‘Milpara’ is going to start a Computer Literacy program for those adults who would like to become more ‘computer literate’. This program would be a great support for those adults who either struggle with navigating their way around a computer or have dificulty in accessing / using such programs as our school Compass program. Please contact Milpara on 5655 2524 or e-mail them at

Education Week

Don’t forget that Education Week begins on Monday 16th May and goes through till Friday 20th May. This year our main day of focus will be Friday 20th May when we have a big day planned:

Friday 20th May:

Walk to School Morning and Healthy Breakfast. This year we are inviting all school community members to join the walking school buses and afterwards join us all for a healthy breakfast.

After breakfast, join us for our special Education Week Assembly where some of our Year 6 students will share their thoughts on education.

Open Classrooms: Visit the classrooms from 9:30 – 11:00. (Please Note that last week’s Newsletter had the Open Classrooms as occurring on Wednesday. We will have all events on Friday 20th May.)

Library News

The month of May is nominated as ‘National Family Reading Month’ and to celebrate and nurture your child’s love of reading it’s a great time to turn off the telly and settle down together with a good book. Families that ‘read together, succeed together’.

Also celebrated in May is National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) which is on Wednesday 25th May. NSS is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 16th year, it is a fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes. NSS is held by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. The story this year is ‘I Got This Hat’ written by Jol and Kate Temple and there will be a reading of the story at 11:00am on the 25th in the Library.
